Fundraiser for Goshen School
Dear Readers,
From time to time we find a philanthropic organization, a business or just a group of friends getting together to have some fun, but whose intent is to give back to their community. The short article below is about a group of friends and relatives who do just that. Schools throughout the country need more than our taxes can supply. You might not think this a “big deal”, but it is well known that children who learn to play instruments have a bigger capacity to learn. When I was in elementary school (a hundred years ago!) it was mandatory for us all to play an instrument and the results were noticeable. So here’s to community service and having fun while doing it.

A Party with a Goal
For the last four years, a small dedicated group of Goshen residents have come together on the 1st Saturday in August to put on a private musical event affectionately called, “Backyard Blues and Barbeque”. Bands that have attended over the years include “The Willie Nile Band”, “The Beehive Queen- Christine Ohlman and her band”, “Sugar Ray and the Blue Tones”, “Neil and the Vipers”, and “The James Montgomery Band”.
This year our group of friends has collected $1,500.00 dollars and decided to donate all to the Goshen Center School Music Department for the purchase of new instruments.
A special thank you to Holly Randino for donating instruments to the school. Also, Dangerous Dan Evans “The Barbeque Man” for supplying and cooking BBQ for the event.
And finally, to our Families, Friends and Neighbors who donated their food, a most heartfelt thank you.
