Region 20 Board Updates
Happy Fall Region 20 Community!
And so it begins, another school year, the last one for Region 6 and Litchfield separately, and we will certainly do our best to savor all of the “lasts” this year has in store for us. We are back into the thick of it! The beginning days saw super high temperatures outside which forced us to have to make last minute decisions for our students allowing them to have early dismissals within the first two weeks of school. No one was sad about that!
Now that the air is cooling and the leaves are slowly dropping, our kids are back on sports fields, and filling the hallways with their chatter and we are loving every minute of it. After taking a little break due to scheduling conflicts, the Region 20 Board is back in full force, making things happen. Here are our latest announcements and goings on:
First up, the Approval of R20AA Contract
The Region 20 Board of Education and the Region 20 Administrators Association (R20AA) are excited they have reached a three-year agreement that will run from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2027. This agreement will provide for continuity of staff as we move forward.
Next, we have a new Assistant Superintendent of Pupil Services
On Sept 14th, the Region 20 Board of Education unanimously approved Julie Haggard as the Assistant Superintendent of Pupil Services. Julie has served as the Litchfield Director of Pupil and Special Services for the last eight years. Previously, she served in the same role for the Newtown Public Schools. With great experience and knowledge, Julie will now be able to work with all LPS and RSD6 staff and families to provide a seamless transition to our new district.
Both of these announcements are huge steps forward in our timeline. The Board is also busy working on things like approving facility changes to accommodate our students safely in all of our buildings, hiring auditors (boring!), making sure transportation is in place and continuing to hire staff on multiple levels.
If you haven’t had a chance to attend a committee or full board meeting, we highly encourage you to join us, we even have puppies at some of the meetings! But in all seriousness, attending a meeting (live or virtually) can really help put things into perspective and give you a great sense of all the work we’re doing. Each committee is working on creating goals that will continually be revised and updated as we cross things off of our to-do lists - a very satisfying feeling I must say!
And of course, it wouldn’t be a newsletter if we didn’t address the elephant in the room. We all know you’re most interested in the school name. We’re still working on it, and as soon as we have any updates you’ll be the first to know. We DO however have tentative logos for our bobcat and bob kitty (for the little ones) respectively. And you know what? They look AWESOME!! Our school store will be opening soon, so stay tuned and be sure to grab your inaugural Bobcat swag, I’ve got my eye on all the things!
Our next Region 20 Board meeting will be on September 28th at the Warren School and remote. Please join us. And if you’re not following along on social media, hit us up on Insta and Facebook @region20_ct.
Until next time Bobcat Nation!!
