The Library Board opened its regular meeting by approving minutes from recent meetings. A motion to approve and accept the minutes of the January 21 regular meeting was made by Henrietta Horvay and seconded by Rebecca Prause. A motion to approve the minutes of the February 6 special meeting was made by Prause and seconded by Horvay. Both motions passed.

During discussion, Prause asked Library Director Philip Armentrout about computer support. Armentrout reported that following issues with the online calendar, the library would extend its contract with Computer Obsession for one year, along with a contract for calendar management services. He added that a vendor has quoted $1,500 for a website redesign.

Armentrout also reported that staff are asking patrons to update their contact information and grant permission for electronic newsletters, noting that many patrons opt out of email communication. He confirmed that staff identify themselves by name when answering phones.

The director described discussions with a Lakeview High School teacher about developing an escape room program at the library. While kits are available for purchase, the proposal involves students designing the experience. Transportation was identified as a concern; board member Kristen Durso noted that small school buses may be available for community use.

Durso also shared research on teen programming at other Connecticut libraries, including teen advisory councils that plan and run programs. She added that a Goshen resident has expressed interest in leading knitting programs.

The Director’s Report was received on a motion by Horvay and a second by Prause. Horvay requested the inclusion of a monthly budget-to-actual report. The Treasurer’s Report was received on a motion by Horvay and second by Prause. Prause inquired about the library’s accounts and will follow up with Lynette Miller.

No new or old business was discussed. During public comment, resident Maryann Stilson raised the importance of adult programming. Armentrout said such programs are promoted through email and the town newsletter and will continue to be developed.

The meeting adjourned at 5:01 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 18.
