Goshen Library Board of Directors New Director Hired
12/17/25, 4:00 PM
Present: Chair Henrietta Horvay, Kristin Durso, Anne Green, Lynette Miller, Rebecca Prause, and Patricia Sanders.
The Goshen Library Board of Directors opened its regular meeting by approving the minutes, with minor spelling corrections, from the October and November regular meetings and several special meetings.
Interim Library Director Lynn Steinmayer reported on Children’s Coordinator Courtney Murray’s visits to Lakeview High School, where she surveyed students about their library use and needs. Steinmayer said that “she found some very interesting information there,” including “ideas of books they were looking for.”
Durso added that “one of the ideas … was to come to the library and play games maybe with the senior citizens … we talked about how to get teenagers into the library … well, my daughter would love to come and read.” Durso also discussed engaging a school-based gaming club to design an escape room for the library.
Miller made a motion to add a discussion to the January meeting to “have a couple of the kids come in in January. Talk to us a little bit.” Prause seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Steinmayer provided a budget update, reporting that approximately 42% of the budget had been expended as of early December. She identified office supplies as an area to monitor. Horvay noted that staffing salaries were 54% expended.
Miller asked whether book purchases had been frozen until a new director was hired. Steinmayer stated that she had not been instructed to stop purchasing books. Horvay said that “there was nothing that we did in the minutes” indicating such a directive. Miller moved to accept the Director’s Report; the motion was seconded by Green and approved.
Horvay invited First Selectman Seth Breakell to address the hiring of a new library director. Breakell announced that Phillip Armentrout would begin work on January 5, 2026. Board members discussed ways to welcome the new director, who will work with the interim director during the transition.
In accordance with the board’s bylaws, new officers were elected to take office at the January meeting. Sanders was elected president, Prause vice president, Miller treasurer, Green assistant treasurer, and Durso secretary. The slate was approved unanimously.
Steinmayer also reported that most computer issues had been resolved. No new correspondence was received, though previously sent and received correspondence was entered into the record by Miller.
During public comment, two former board members thanked Horvay for her service, and a resident thanked Horvay and Steinmayer for the adult programming that had been facilitated.
