Tempers flared at the Goshen Board of Education meeting on June 11th  as First Selectman Todd Carusillo was caught on zoom making an obscene gesture toward the Board.

It began with Carusillo addressing the cost per student based on Goshen’s share of the district budget. Carusillo, participating remotely from his backyard, was at times difficult to understand, but the tension escalated when he spoke over an audience member who challenged his remarks, refusing to pause or yield the floor.

As board chair Tiffany Parkhouse attempted to restore order, she asked Carusillo to hold off on his comments.  He responded, warning, “If you cut me off, we’re going to vote no,” further heightening the discord in the room. The situation deteriorated to the point that every teacher from Goshen walked out in protest, signaling deep frustration with the proceedings.

Upon adjournment, Carusillo, still on camera, made an obscene gesture toward the board. The incident left attendees stunned, including the first selectman from Litchfield, who was reportedly appalled by the conduct. The episode has sparked concern among community members about the tone of local governance and the example set by its leaders.
