Present: Chair Henrietta Horvay, Kristen Durso, Lynette Miller, Rebecca Prause, Patricia Sanders, and Lynn Steinmayer (interim library director)
Absent: Anne Green
The November Regular Meeting of the Library Board opened with the introduction of two newly appointed members, Kristen Durso and Rebecca Prause. With only three returning members present, the Board voted to table the approval of minutes and any matters arising from them.
Interim Library Director Lynn Steinmayer provided an update on current programming. She reported that the Babies and Boards program continued to draw strong attendance, while the Wednesday story time has seen lower participation. Steinmayer also noted that Children’s Coordinator Courtney Murray recently visited Plum Hill Middle School to strengthen connections between the library and middle school students.
The Board then reviewed the Treasurer’s Report. Treasurer Lynette Miller outlined the sources and purposes of various library funds for the benefit of the new members.
Miller also raised a question regarding correspondence tied to computer service contracts, noting that these correspondences should be included in the official record. Miller has often expressed concern about correspondence not being made part of the record of the Board. Board Chair Henrietta Horvay stated she did not have all copies available at the meeting; Miller will provide them at the next session.
New First Selectman Seth Breakell addressed the reimbursement request for former Library Director Linda Senkus Benedict’s conference travel expenses. The Board had approved the reimbursement twice, but the payment had not been processed under previous First Selectman Todd Carusillo. Horvay agreed to supply Breakell with the necessary documentation. Breakell also suggested including professional development for the director and staff as a designated budget line item to streamline future approvals.
Before entering executive session, the Board added an item concerning the cost of employee benefits to be received from the First Selectman in executive session. The Board then held an executive session to interview a candidate for library director and invited former Board members Josephine Jones and Johanna Kimball to participate. The Board adjourned following the session with no further discussion.
