Region 20 School Board Updates
Welcome to Summer Region 20 Community! We did it, another successful year of learning, leading and growing for our students, staff and families is behind us. We made it through all of the moving up and graduation ceremonies (congrats again!), and are officially halfway through summer break. Of course that doesn’t mean we’re not working during the summer months. In fact, there’s stuff happening at all of our facilities over the summer, like installing a new floor in the Wamogo small gym, painting and cleaning in our other schools. We are thankful for the staff that makes everything possible.
In addition to all the facilities work we’re doing, we have over 100 staff members who are working on writing a curriculum for R20 this summer. Oh, and we have learning and enrichment programs for our students going on as well. Lots of things are cooking within the region during the summer months.
As always, we’d like to invite you to stay informed and active by being in the know through attending our meetings which are always posted on our brand new website www.rsd20.org. Here you’ll not only find meeting information but updates on schools, committees and regional happenings. We appreciate hearing from you and getting to know you, so make sure you subscribe to our email list to be sure you’re getting the most up to date information!
In very exciting news, the approval of the Arethusa Farm Foundation has been completed in record time! This milestone allows us to get things moving on the property that we have acquired for our Agricultural programs. Several board members had an opportunity to tour the farm a few weeks ago, and all I can say is WOW! This is such an exciting time to be part of Region 20! The opportunities for all of our students and our community are endless. The work has begun to get the farm in order for the new school year so our students can take the lead on creating the best Ag school in the country! (I might be a little bit biased).
The Board would like to again thank you for all of your feedback and commentary on the school name choices. We appreciate that over 400 of you submitted suggestions at the beginning of the process. We received a lot of creative submissions along with several multiples and we recognize how important naming a school is. I can tell you that this has not been an easy road to navigate, and we are doing our best to be thoughtful and mindful of this process. Based on the overwhelming feedback we received from the community, we have agreed to take it back to the Long Term Planning committee for further review and discussion.
The Board is also excited to share that it has negotiated and unanimously ratified a contract with Region 20 Education Association. The agreement runs through the 2026-2027 school year and will help pave the foundation to the transition of a new district. Our thanks to the membership of the Litchfield Education Association, the WAMOGO Education Association, the Connecticut Education Association.
Stay tuned for more in the coming months as we continue to work for this community, we have 11 months left until we officially open the doors to our “new” schools, and we could not be more excited to move forward.
Here we go Bobcats!! Enjoy the rest of your summer everyone!
