Goshen Love Story Hits the Stage

Inspiration can strike in the most unusual places. In the case of the play A Good Night Kiss, a search for a story resulted in the perfect partnership to retell a Goshen tale two decades after it was first written, and over 150 years after it happened.

 It all began when Kathy Kelly, of Goshen, a highly accomplished stage and television performer, had the idea to produce a play for Goshen, about Goshen, in Goshen. She shared her thoughts with longtime resident and massage therapist, Amy Tobin, who suggested the book Fred and Jennie: A Civil War Love Story, which chronicles the real-life correspondence of two Goshen youths during the Civil War.

 Inspired by the dramatic potential, Kelly went straight to the library to get the book. She happened to mention her project and was overheard by Cinzi Lavin, an award winning musician, playwright, and self-proclaimed history nerd. The two connected immediately.

Less than two years later, the play will premiere at Goshen Players on June 6th.

 A Goodnight Kiss will be performed Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 at 8PM, with a Sunday, June 8 matinee at 3PM. There will also be a Q & A panel after the June 8 matinee featuring Civil War experts. Historical artifacts will be on exhibit for all shows.
