I am an old woman, demoralized and deeply upset with the fact that my country is not the same as it was a week ago.  Due to our Supreme Court’s decision that a president cannot be prosecuted for anything that he does that falls under the undefined “official duties”, we now have our own despot, and a group of the wealthiest men on the planet with the biggest microphones, on a mission to undo regulations on their fiefdoms, get their taxes cut and their projects confirmed and paid for without oversight.

I fear for my friends in my old neighborhood who may not be citizens and for my grandsons soon to be of drafting age. I fear our Social Security will vanish and I expect rising prices and another attack on healthcare.

A national mood of meanness, insularity and aggression has gripped my nation and feels foreign to the spirit of optimism and inclusiveness of only a decade ago. There is deep concern about the dual realities that are developing in our nation and the probable outcome of that. I am writing to at least declare where I stand.  Some people say that we should all work together and give Trump a chance.  My response is that I will not work together to undermine the values, laws, principles and constitutional law of my country or work together to take away the civil rights of anyone.  I will stand for honesty, respect for all living beings, and for the beating heart of our endangered earth.
